A southern rascal lost in the heart of Chicago started ruminating on what storytelling might mean to us, five, ten, fifteen years down the road. How might sounds of the past circle back around? The answers lay hidden in the songs. A recent Merlefest Songwriting Competition finalist, Wright Gatewood released his debut EP vol. 1: the city, the first in his Wayward Triptych series, in the winter of 2019. Through generous grant funded support from Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Wright released vol. 2: the land in the spring of 2024. With an emotional palette that plays with your heart strings, Wright strives to bring ideals of the helpless wanderers, the rapscallions of yesteryear, and the dreamers of tomorrow to your ears as he pieces the parts together.
